2019 in Review

Artistically I had the best year last year. I created loads of illustrations and towards the end of the year I finally started taking (baby) steps to become a published illustrator!

I developed my first two characters: a girl and a boy with no facial expressions because I wanted to have images where the audience can decide for themselves what they see in their faces. It was a challenging task and my biggest problem was that my illustrations weren’t as airy as I had wanted them to be. They just didn’t want to float.

Well, that changed early 2020 but last year that was a real struggle. Anyhow, I really enjoyed playing with colors and shapes and also that I wasn’t scared to experiment with colors while not everyone enjoyed that change.

I had previously used 1-2 harmonizing colors, like blues and greens, oranges and reds, and I rarely created colorful paintings because the feedback was always like this: “oranges don’t go with blues” or “you shouldn’t put greens and reds next to each other”. I think my biggest achievement in 2019 was to accept myself, my tastes and likes and also the fact that there will always be some people who love my art and others who won’t and that’s the beauty of it all.

I had a really fun time refreshing my protfolio and I also got a lot of commissions for original pieces in paralell with that and with my daytime job in Intuita Gallery in Budapest.

Magnus and I

In May, a new member joined our family: a tiny silkie guine pig whose name is Magnus (given by my boyfriend – he got him for his birthday). We fell in love with him straight away and so I had to make him into art 🙂 I also have some sketches of him and my boyfriend so another piece of the 2 of them is actually on the way!

I created a slideshow with a beautiful piece of music where I gathered some of my paintings:

I hope you had a similarly great and productive closure for the last decade and I can’t wait to share with you all my achivements for the current one!

Have a lovely day,

Chloe
