Working on butterflies

“Like wildflowers; You must allow yourself to grow in all the places people thought you never would.”– E.V.

Since the beginning of 2020, I have been working on watercolor illustrations and this butterfly was one of the firsts. Watercolor is most often painted on watercolor paper which means that these pieces will eventually be framed (I am very much against frames, first of all, I would not like my dots to have boundaries and secondly, I think that the color and the style of a frame must always reflect the home’s style and colors and how would I know that when a complete strangers buy my art).

So I started playing around the idea and I put this butterfly into a frame I thought was most suitable. I painted this butterfly for my sister’s birthday so I wanted to add a simple, oval, very light color frame:

I fell in love with it immediately. It is soft, it still looks like this butterfly could fly out of the painting any moment yet it gives some structure and protection for it! I was so happy to see this!

And then I started playing around with dots again and another butterfly painting started to reveal itself. In the early stages of the painting, I posted to my IG and Facebook and asked my followers, what do they see in my art – the most fascinating ideas popped up such as a boy and a girl dancing, or a little girl with a bow in her hair! Also, some people guessed it right that it is going to be another butterfly painting! 🙂

In the future I am really hoping to put together a whole garden of animals but I think we will have to wait months for that to be completed!

Have a wonderful day,
